Strategic Council
The Strategic Council is the strategic and decision-making body for RenewableNI. It acts as the steering group for RenewableNI activity, oversees strategic priorities, and informs policy positions. The Council is also responsible for setting and reviewing governance policies and procedures.
Membership of the Strategic Council includes RenewableNI Gold members; Chair and Deputy Chair of the Committee; Wind Energy Ireland CEO; RenewableUK CEO and Distributed Generation Working Group Chair.
RenewableNI Committee
Membership of the Committee includes the current Chair of RenewableNI, Deputy Chair, representatives from member organisations and is facilitated by RenewableNI staff.
Meeting every two months, the Committee is responsible for the election of Chair and Deputy Chair; oversight of Working Groups and Committee subgroups and informing RenewableNI policy positions and consultation responses.
All Island Markets Committee
This committee is currently chaired by Andrew Burke, Enerco.
Typically meeting on the second Wednesday of each month, the All Island Markets Committee discusses all issues relating to the Single Electricity Market (SEM).
Grid Group
Brings members together to shape policy and regulatory discussions on grid development, anticipatory investment, and connection processes. The group meets on the third Thursday of each month, providing a regular forum to share updates and coordinate industry priorities.
This working group is chaired by Claver Chitambo, RES.
Grid Capacity Group
Focuses on tracking the delivery of transmission infrastructure and driving solutions to ease network constraints and unlock more capacity for renewable generation. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, giving members a platform to collaborate on practical, forward-looking solutions.
The Chair position is currently held by Barry O’Kane, E Power.
Markets Working Group
The Markets Working Group reports to the All Island Markets Committee and meets as and when needed to discuss issues related specifically to Northern Ireland. It is currently chaired by Richard Murphy, Pinsent Masons.
Offshore Working Group
Niamh Kenny, North Channel Wind, chairs the Offshore group which focuses on the delivery of the Northern Ireland Energy Strategy target for 1GW of offshore wind development. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Planning Working Group
The Planning Working Group is chaired by Emma Kelly, Turley.
Meeting on the first Thursday each month, the Group discusses key challenges facing the renewables industry in obtaining development consents.
Distributed Generation Working Group
Small scale renewable projects of less than 5MW has allowed a diverse range of interests participate in renewable electricity generation. The RNI Distributed Generation Group (formerly known as Small Scale Working Group) represents their interests and highlights the benefits this sector brings typically to rural communities across Northern Ireland.
The working group is chaired by Michael Thompson, Everun, and meets on the fourth Tuesday every month.
