RenewableNI’s committees and working groups reflect key areas of the renewable electricity sector.

RenewableNI Committee

Membership of the Committee includes the current Chair of RenewableNI, Deputy Chair, representatives from member organisations and is facilitated by RNI staff.
Meeting every two months, the Committee is responsible for the overall planning of RNI.

All Island Markets Committee

This committee is currently chaired by Andrew Burke, Enerco.
Typically meeting on the second Wednesday of each month, the All Island Markets Committee discusses all issues relating to the Single Electricity Market (SEM).

Grid Working Group

The Grid WG, focuses on different areas than the Capacity partner.
Meeting of the fourth Thursday each month, this working group is chaired by Claver Chitambo, RES.

Grid Capacity Working Group

Meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, the Grid Capacity WG was launched in January 2022 following the publication of the SONI Shaping Our Electricity Future Roadmap.

The Grid Capacity WG is focused on delivery of the projects outlined in the Shaping Roadmap as well as delivery of Association Transmission Reinforcements (ATRs), and reports to the wider Grid Working Group.

The Chair position is currently held by Barry O’Kane, E Power.

Markets Working Group

The Markets Working Group reports to the All Island Markets Committee and meets as and when needed to discuss issues related specifically to Northern Ireland.  It is currently chaired by Richard Murphy, Pinsent Masons.

Offshore Working Group

Niamh Kenny, North Channel Wind, chairs the Offshore group which focuses on the delivery of the Northern Ireland Energy Strategy target for 1GW of offshore wind development.  The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month.

Planning Working Group

The Planning Working Group is chaired by Emma Kelly, Turley.
Meeting on the first Wednesday each month, the Group discusses key challenges facing the renewables industry in obtaining development consents.

PV Working Group

The PV (photovoltaics) Working Group was launched in January 2022 to reflect the growth of RNI members developing solar projects.  The group is chaired by Paul Carson, Strategic Power Projects, and meets quarterly.

Distributed Generation Working Group

Small scale renewable projects of less than 5MW has allowed a diverse range of interests participate in renewable electricity generation.  The RNI Distributed Generation Group (formerly known as Small Scale Working Group) represents their interests and highlights the benefits this sector brings typically to rural communities across Northern Ireland.

The working group is chaired by Michael Thompson, Everun, and meets on the fourth Tuesday every month.
