RenewableNI in partnership with A&L Goodbody, renewable energy seminar, ‘Policy, Markets and Momentum’ brought together industry, finance and policy perspectives at a pivotal moment for the sector.
The seminar included the launch of a new report, offering timely insight into the evolving landscape for renewable energy development, investment and delivery in Northern Ireland.
The event explored what lies ahead for the sector, with a focus on emerging schemes, market signals and the role of finance in supporting the transition to a net zero electricity system. Attendees gained valuable insight from expert speakers with first-hand experience of operating at the intersection of energy policy, project delivery and investment.
Leonidas Papanikolaou
Senior Head of Bespoke and New Schemes, Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC).
Leo has been in LCCC for more than 10 years, holding an excellent understanding of the CfDs and valuable insights on how the CfD concept can be expanded to new areas of application.
His current remit includes being responsible for LCCC’s overall advice and delivery of the REPG scheme in Northern Ireland.
Leo is also responsible for the delivery coordination of all new schemes in LCCC’s portfolio, including CCUS, H2 Storage & Transport and SAF, leading a team of Project & Programme managers.
He previously led a team offering advisory services to DESNZ for the design of the subsidy contracts for Power CCUS, Industrial and Waste CCUS, Greenhouse Gas Removal and Hydrogen Storage.
Before his tenure with LCCC, Leo held seniors Project and Contract Management positions in the wider construction industry.

Partner, Head of Sustainable Futures and Corporate Finance, KPMG
Russell leads KPMG’s Sustainable Futures team. He has over 15 years’ experience in renewable energy, low carbon fundraising and project finance transactions, as well as corporate strategy and M&A advisory services.
John Palmer
Partner, Corporate, A&L Goodbody
John Palmer is a partner in A&L Goodbody’s Corporate department in Belfast. He is a projects lawyer with over 10 years’ experience in the Irish Energy sector advising on a range of renewable technologies including onshore wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy. His clients include a range of international developers as well as equity and debt funders.
John is a regular speaker at industry events and provides specialised in-house training to a number of financial institutions in the funding of renewable energy projects. John is qualified to practice in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
